What is ISO 50001?

ISO 50001 is an international standard, published in 2011, which sets out the requirements for implementing an energy management system. Enabling organisations to establish and embed systems and processes necessary to continuously improve energy performance.

It is based on the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology, with a focus on identifying your significant energy users and opportunities to continually improve their energy performance. There is also a strong focus on identifying and demonstrating compliance to energy legislation specific to your business. These include the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme and the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic Report and Directors’ Report) Regulations.
