ISG is an international construction services company delivering fit-out, construction, engineering services and a range of specialist solutions. We recognise that embedding sustainability makes business sense and, in recognition of this, in 2013-14 we voluntarily moved to integrated reporting. Our sustainability performance is now included alongside financial performance in our annual report.
Reporting to the CDP allows us to identify greenhouse gas emission reduction opportunities, answer our clients’ and prospective clients’ requests to provide comparable and relevant climate data, and increases our understanding of business risks and opportunities associated with climate change.
Having worked with Carbon Credentials on our CRC Internal Audit for four years, we decided to work with its Communications team in this new area.
We appointed Carbon Credentials to conduct a third-party verification of our inaugural global emissions disclosure and to support the development of ISG’s first CDP Climate Change response.
Carbon Credentials conducted a number of interviews and workshops involving individuals from across the business to understand our international operations and our approach to sustainability across the different business units. Their approach resulted in a well-managed project that was focused on knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
The most visible outcome from working with Carbon Credentials is that ISG achieved a CDP score of 93 B compared to an industry average of 57 C.
The Climate Change Risks and Opportunities Workshop was particularly valuable – allowing us to crystallise our understanding of what the climate change challenge means to our business and ensure our answers aligned to CDP’s scoring criteria.
We are delighted with this result, particularly as a first-time responding company.
