Biffa, a company with over 200 nationwide sites, needed a software platform that could record its energy usage and safely store its energy data. Biffa recognised the need to engage a third party that could understand the challenging and complex nature of its energy usage. Additionally, Biffa was one of the first companies to recognise the need for accurate data to mitigate the risk of non-compliance.
The process involved collecting data from numerous different streams, as well as insuring that data was uploaded on a routine basis, which varied monthly for invoicing, to, more critically, daily for half-hourly. This highly-efficient flow of half-hourly data enables the end user to view yesterday’s data today, empowering managers across the entire organisation to take action thanks to almost real time energy reports.
Carbon Credentials’ data services platform was also set up to take in a wide range of fuel types, from gas oil to kerosene. The data streams were also linked to Carbon Credentials’ advanced analytics platform, which incorporates highly advanced analytics software that carries out in-depth analysis of energy performance, from site level to organisation level. An advantage of having on-demand half-hourly data is that Carbon Credentials is able to set up reports that can be sent out on an automated basis to hundreds of sites at any one time, as well as opening opportunity for further conversations about energy strategy.
Good, accurate data in the software tool allows for numerous managers at different levels of the organisation to log in and view information from a group level to a site level, against budgets and forecasts, and through a wealth of different reports. Having numerous different software tools at our disposal allow for ad-hoc energy analysis, such as comparing highs and lows across site performance, or group-level performance that compares energy usage year on year. Additionally, it helps support informed decision making.
Another key advantage of having accurate data is the ability to use the software platform for compliance purposes. Examples include having an up-to-date CRC Evidence Pack stored within the software. In addition to this, we’re also able to download data in a format that is readily compatible with CRC reporting and compares up to four different types of data, allowing for the most accurate data to be identified.
